Providing the facility of joyful and elementary education to the dropout and non-going children of weaker communities in the remote areas of the PES project field in three blocks of Varanasi — Chiraigaon, Cholapur, and Kashi Vidyapeeth — the project runs with 15 NFE centres, 10 Educational Support Centres, 6 Information Centres, and 6 Vocational Training Centres.
Up to now a total of 25 NFE centres have been run successfully, through which a total of 3353 children (1711 boys & 1658 girls) have been mainstreamed. In the current session, a total of 2025 children (993 boys & 1032 girls) are getting education through 15 NFE centres.
Objectives
- 90% of children in the project areas are mainstreamed into the formal school education system.
- School dropout rate is decreased by 40%.
- Education among young girls is promoted.
- Status of government schools is improved.
- Community participation in schooling is enhanced.
Activities
Successful conduction of NFE centres with annual examination results: 15 NFE centres are run successfully in 15 villages of the project area, providing qualitative education to the target groups. In the session of July 2009 – June 2010, a total of 2025 children (1032 girls and 993 boys) received education and sat their examination at the 15 NFE centres.
In the new session (2010–11), total fresh enrolment of children is 742 (383 girls and 359 boys).
